Arab Israeli Lawmaker Opposes Jewish Settlement Near Arab Town
Mansour Abbas, chairman of the United Arab List (Ra'am) party and a member of the Knesset, visited Majd al-Krum, an Arab town in northern Israel, following the establishment of a Jewish settlement nearby in the Al-Rus area. Abbas stated that Majd al-Krum and its residents have a history of activism to protect their rights, land, and issues important to Arab society. He emphasized the need for continued efforts through various channels, including on the ground, legal, media, and political avenues, to achieve the settlement's removal.
Abbas accused the "racist right" of attempting to exploit the situation to incite conflict between Arabs and Jews for election propaganda, serving the current government's survival. He highlighted the need for expanded municipal jurisdiction and genuine solutions for construction and development in Majd al-Krum and other Arab communities. Abbas urged the police to take responsibility and prevent the settlement and incitement before the situation escalates.
