Democrat Candidate Deletes Tweet After Sparking Controversy Over Gaza War Film

Gabi Lasky, the sixth-ranked candidate for the Israeli 'Democrats' party, deleted a tweet on Monday after it ignited a public firestorm. Lasky had initially defended a film, referred to as 'Naza', which allegedly depicts war crimes by IDF soldiers in Gaza, arguing that such works should not be silenced and pushing back against criticism.

The film 'Naza' has caused significant public controversy in Israel due to its portrayal of IDF operations in the Gaza Strip and its claims regarding Israel's conduct during the war.

Lasky had stated that the discourse against the film's creators had become violent and called for protecting the right to raise moral questions, even during wartime. "The violent discourse against the creators must stop," she wrote, adding that these are "works that raise ethical questions, which must be asked precisely out of pain." She further argued, "It is easiest to justify human rights violations during wartime, and therefore there is also an obligation to ask questions and set boundaries. This is the essence of democracy."

According to Amit Segal, the deletion of the post followed intense pressure exerted on Lasky by the leadership of the Labor Party's campaign.
