DNA Evidence Links Suspect to Drone Drug Smuggling Ring to Egypt

Israeli authorities have arrested a suspect, identified as Danfiri, in connection with a drone-based drug smuggling operation targeting Egypt. The operation was detected by a military observation post near the Egyptian border. A female observer identified the drone and directed a reserve soldier patrol to the scene.

Danfiri and an accomplice were observed loading equipment and drugs into their vehicle and attempting to conceal them in bushes as the patrol approached. The soldiers collected the discarded items while pursuing the suspects, who then drove to the town of Bir Hadaj and hid their vehicle. Information and images of the suspects were passed to the police, who initiated a search.

Police located Danfiri hiding under a counter at a local cafe. During a search of his belongings, a remote control handle for the drones was found on his person. He initially denied knowledge of the operation, claiming he was asleep and had arrived at the cafe with an unidentified person. However, evidence, including drone footage confirming the smuggling activity and the suspects' movements, contradicted his statements.

Investigators collected DNA samples from cigarette butts and other items found in the vehicle. A test flight of the recovered drone controllers confirmed their functionality. Danfiri's initial statements to investigators were inconsistent with the evidence, and he later refused to provide a truthful account of the events. Prosecutors are seeking to detain Danfiri until the end of legal proceedings, citing the danger he poses if released.
