Israeli Police Uncover Drone Smuggling Network Importing Chinese Drones for Crime in South

Israeli police revealed a smuggling network importing drones from China and distributing them to criminal groups in southern Israel for smuggling weapons and drugs. The investigation, led by the Economic Enforcement Division South of Lahav 433 in cooperation with the Southern District Police, National Bomb Detection Center at Customs, Ben Gurion Airport Customs, Jerusalem VAT Investigations, and the Prison Service's canine unit, focused on a security company suspected of facilitating the illegal imports.

The company, which provides security services, allegedly served as a front to import drones while committing customs and VAT offenses. The owner, a man in his 30s from Ashkelon, along with two employees, are suspected of acting as intermediaries supplying drones to criminal elements involved in smuggling. Police found additional drone-related equipment in the company’s warehouse.

The investigation uncovered dozens of similar drone shipments over time, believed to be intended for smuggling operations. When a new shipment of dozens of drones arrived at the warehouse, police moved to a visible phase of the investigation, arresting three suspects and seizing the shipment. The suspects face charges including VAT and customs violations, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit a crime. Two suspects had their detention extended until the following Tuesday, while the third was released under restrictive conditions. Police expect further arrests as the investigation continues.
