Kfar Kana Holds Annual Scholarship Ceremony Honoring Late Benefactor
Kfar Kana hosted its annual scholarship distribution ceremony for the Social Development and Advancement Fund, named in memory of the late Muhammad Fendi Awawdeh, also known as "Abu Bakr." The event, held on Saturday, was organized in collaboration with the Kfar Kana Veterans Association for Sports and Culture and was attended by a large number of residents, social and religious figures, family members, and dozens of university students.
During the ceremony, scholarships totaling 620,000 shekels were awarded to numerous university students from Kfar Kana. This initiative highlights values of generosity and community solidarity, emphasizing the importance of supporting education and investing in the younger generation.
The ceremony featured speeches from Professor Jahina Awawdeh Shehadeh on behalf of the family, journalist Wadee Awawdeh as the host, Sheikh Kamal Al-Khateeb, Archimandrite Simon Khoury, a representative of the local council chairman Rabhi Amara, Mr. Youssef Awawdeh, and Professor Assaf Ghanem. A speech was also delivered by a representative of the scholarship recipients.
The fund's origin traces back decades to a personal struggle faced by Muhammad Fendi Awawdeh, who was trying to pay university tuition for his three children. Facing a shortfall of 1,000 shekels, he discovered an envelope containing the exact amount needed in his shop, left by an unknown benefactor. Inspired by this act of anonymous kindness, his children established the fund to help other students facing similar financial challenges.
What began with an anonymous 1,000 shekels has grown over the years into a fund distributing hundreds of thousands of shekels, providing opportunities and hope to many students. The family views these scholarships not just as financial aid but as an investment in the students' future and the community, demonstrating how a small act of kindness can create a lasting legacy.
