ImageSat Unveils EROS NOVA Satellite With 25cm Resolution

Israeli firm ImageSat International has revealed its new intelligence and observation satellite, EROS NOVA, designed for security and intelligence agencies. This satellite will join ImageSat's existing fleet, which includes the RUNNER and KNIGHT satellites. EROS NOVA is engineered to capture imagery with a resolution of 25 centimeters, offering a high level of detail from space for target identification, intelligence gathering, and analysis.

Beyond standard imaging, EROS NOVA integrates multiple capabilities into a single system. It can record video from space and capture images in the SWIR (Short-Wave Infrared) spectrum. SWIR imaging enhances data collection in adverse visibility conditions, such as fog or haze, revealing details not always visible in regular photography. The satellite will also feature an onboard artificial intelligence system capable of processing and analyzing data in orbit, prioritizing relevant information and reducing the time between image capture and operational delivery.

The launch of EROS NOVA comes as ImageSat seeks to expand its space-based data collection capabilities. CEO Noam Segal stated that an additional satellite could generate an extra $40 million annually due to demand from governments and security organizations. However, the development, production, and launch of satellites are time-consuming and capital-intensive, limiting the company's ability to rapidly scale its capacity.

ImageSat operates in a competitive market with companies like Maxar Technologies (offering 30cm resolution), Airbus (30cm, with future 20cm capabilities), Planet Labs (50cm resolution), BlackSky (35cm resolution), and Satellogic (70cm, with 50cm processing). ImageSat claims EROS NOVA's 25cm resolution, combined with video, SWIR, and onboard AI, offers a superior integrated solution.

ImageSat's business model encompasses providing imagery and processed data from its EROS satellites, developing AI tools for satellite data analysis, and supplying satellite systems, control infrastructure, and ground support for satellite operations. Segal emphasized that EROS NOVA represents the next generation of space-based intelligence, enabling faster responses to operational needs by shortening the time to actionable intelligence.
