Yael Bar Zohar Shares Grief Over Nephew's Death in Nova Festival Massacre

Israeli actress and TV host Yael Bar Zohar has shared a deeply personal and emotional account of her grief following the October 7th Hamas attacks. During the broadcast of the documentary "American Sabras" on Channel 13, which explores the impact of the war on Israeli-Jewish communities in the United States, Bar Zohar revealed the personal loss her family suffered.

While meeting with members of a scout troop in Boston, Bar Zohar spoke about the murder of her husband Guy Zuarz's nephew, Eli Baram, who was killed at the Nova music festival. In a raw interview segment, she struggled to hold back tears as she described the profound sense of loss. "On October 7th, I lost my nephew, Eli. He was 27 years old," she said, comparing the feeling to a piece of her heart and family being torn away. She explained that Eli, who was a scout leader, is missing from a Star of David puzzle, symbolizing the void he left.

Bar Zohar also shared a spiritual message from Eli with the young people in Boston. She recounted his belief in the importance of breathing and staying calm, a message he often shared with family and friends. "He always reminded us not to forget to breathe," she said, urging them to remember this advice when facing difficult situations, especially those involving anti-Israel or anti-Jewish sentiment they might encounter abroad.

She connected this personal tragedy to the broader experience of Israelis living overseas, noting that the documentary aimed to show how the war has affected them. "Tomorrow the film 'American Sabras' airs, a film that was an exciting and shaking journey for me to discover how the war and October 7th also affected Israelis living at the other end of the world, but the heart always remains in the right place," she wrote on social media.
