Israeli Man Loses Two Brothers in Deadly Nova Festival Attack, Turns Tragedy into Mission of Unity and Charity
On October 7, Yossi Rivlin faced an unimaginable tragedy when two of his brothers were killed during the deadly attack at the Nova music festival in Israel. Four of Rivlin's brothers had been working at the festival site when the assault began. Amid the chaos, brothers Yochai and Gigi attempted to reach safety, but Gigi was fatally shot, while Yochai survived by hiding in his vehicle. Meanwhile, brothers Aviv and Yinon took shelter elsewhere; Aviv was killed instantly, and Yinon, a Golani soldier, survived by hiding under leaves.
Yossi, the eldest brother, learned of the deaths through a social media plea from his sister and later confirmed the loss of both Gigi and Aviv. Despite his grief, he took charge of supporting his family, even preventing his mother from attending the funerals to protect her mental health. Shortly after the funerals, Yossi was unexpectedly fired from his job, a blow he accepted as part of a divine plan, stating, "Master of the universe, I am in your hands, do with me what you want."
Transforming his pain into purpose, Yossi founded a synagogue in memory of his brothers, raised funds for a Torah scroll, and devoted himself to charitable work supporting widows, orphans, and lone soldiers. He now leads the "Forever Brothers" organization, which hosts large events to strengthen bereaved families and is establishing a home for isolated soldiers. Yossi emphasizes the power of unity and urges people to cherish their loved ones, reminding everyone of life's fragility and the importance of connection.
The Rivlin family's story is a poignant testament to resilience, faith, and the transformative power of love and community in the face of profound loss.
