Israeli Forces Foil Gun Attack in Hebron During Jewish New Year
Israeli forces announced on Rosh Hashana that they thwarted a planned gun attack in Hebron. The operation, conducted on Shabbat under the direction of the Shin Bet internal security service, led to the arrest of a man identified as Abd al-Rahman. According to the Israeli military, the intervention was based on intelligence provided by the Shin Bet.
The suspect was allegedly preparing an attack against Israeli civilians in the near future. This arrest occurred amid heightened security measures in Judea and Samaria. In the days leading up to the Jewish New Year, the IDF's Central Command had increased its readiness level due to the risk of attacks.
During this period, the army reported conducting dozens of exercises, inspections, and simulations in the region. They also intensified counter-terrorism operations, arresting over 220 wanted individuals. Preparations included exercises involving two brigades along the security barrier and regional training.
Additionally, all battalions within the Judea and Samaria division participated in a large-scale surprise exercise the eve of Rosh Hashana to test rapid response capabilities. General Avi Bluth, commander of the Central Command, conducted surprise inspections of various units to assess operational readiness. Following the Hebron arrest, the IDF stated its forces are continuing operations to prevent further attacks.
