Shin Bet Thwarts Major Terror Plot Targeting Holiday Crowds

The Shin Bet security agency and the Judea and Samaria District Police have thwarted a significant terror plot that aimed to cause mass casualties during the upcoming holidays. Approximately 12 suspects have been arrested in connection with the investigation, which is currently under a gag order regarding most details. Authorities also seized various weapons and ammunition. Investigators believe the detainees were establishing a terror infrastructure and preparing for a series of large-scale attacks across the country. Security officials credit the arrests with preventing a major incident that could have resulted in numerous fatalities.

This operation is reportedly linked to a larger counter-terrorism effort that previously led to the arrest of over 30 suspects in Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria. Charges have already been filed against five individuals in that broader investigation, with proceedings ongoing for the others. Evidence suggests this network began forming armed cells in northern and southern Judea and Samaria in early 2026, with plans to launch attacks starting in early 2027.

Previous reports from "Cursor" detailed related incidents, including the arrest of a Kafr Kanna resident suspected of planning a car bombing targeting security forces near the Al-Aqsa Mosque, reportedly after studying materials on jihad and martyrdom. Another joint operation by the IDF and Shin Bet also led to the apprehension of an individual suspected of preparing attacks and manufacturing explosives.
