Gunman Chases Student, Fires Shots Near School in Jisr az-Zarqa

A violent incident unfolded in the center of Jisr az-Zarqa on Sunday afternoon when a gunman pursued a high school student, firing approximately ten shots. The chase and shooting occurred on a main street, just a few hundred meters from the local police station. The 17-year-old student, who is not a student at the school, managed to escape into the courtyard of a school where other students were on a break. The gunman did not enter the school grounds, but the gunfire caused significant panic among students and staff. Parents, alerted to the situation, called their children and teachers in distress. Police arrived at the school, questioned the student who had sought refuge there, and launched a search for the suspect. Authorities later announced the arrest of three young individuals, including a minor, on suspicion of involvement in the incident. The background of the initial altercation that led to the shooting is still under investigation. The head of the Jisr az-Zarqa local council, Sheikh Murad Amash, condemned the act, calling it a "crossing of all boundaries." He highlighted the area's high population density and the presence of public institutions, emphasizing the danger posed to students and passersby. Amash expressed hope for a thorough police investigation to apprehend those responsible for the "despicable act."
