Prominent Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Ehrenreich Dies at 94 in Williamsburg

Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Ehrenreich, the Gaon Tzaddik (a title of great rabbinic scholarship and piety) and Av Beit Din (head of a rabbinical court) of Shamloya, passed away in Williamsburg, USA, at the age of 94. He died peacefully on the second day of Rosh Hashanah, after hearing the Shofar (ram's horn) and while in full possession of his faculties, following a brief illness.

Rabbi Ehrenreich was a descendant of prominent rabbinic dynasties. His father was Rabbi Yehoshua Ehrenreich of Jerusalem, and his grandfather was Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich, the previous Av Beit Din of Shamloya, who perished during the Holocaust along with some of his writings. He was also a descendant of Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch of Liska and Rabbi Chaim of Sanz.

He was known for his profound scholarship, particularly in the mystical aspects of Torah study, gematria (numerology), and homiletics. His extensive Torah teachings were published in a series of booklets titled "Mayan Yeshuah." He was married to the daughter of Rabbi Moshe Dov Weisberg of Jerusalem.

Rabbi Ehrenreich is survived by a son, Rabbi Yehoshua Ehrenreich, who is married to the daughter of the Av Beit Din of Mantova, and a son-in-law, the Rebbe of Nadvorna-Banya. His grandson is the Rebbe of Dinov.

The funeral procession is expected to depart from Williamsburg, with the burial to take place in Jerusalem's Har HaMenuchot cemetery, next to his father.
