Israeli Tourist Settles Smuggling Case in Jordan Over Sex Toys

A criminal case against an Israeli tourist accused of smuggling sex toys and potency drugs into Jordan has been closed after he reached a settlement with the kingdom's customs authority. The incident began in November 2025 when the Israeli national arrived in Jordan from Thailand and opted for the "green channel" at customs, indicating he had no goods to declare. Customs officials inspected his luggage and discovered 28 sex toys, 15 packs of potency medication, and 15 packs of a honey-based arousal enhancer, with a total estimated value of approximately 600 Jordanian dinars.

The customs prosecutor charged him with smuggling and tax evasion. Initially, the Israeli was acquitted of tax evasion but found guilty of smuggling. He was sentenced to a criminal fine of 1,000 dinars and a customs fine of 1,400 dinars, in addition to customs and tax payments. The court also ordered the confiscation of the seized items.

The Israeli appealed the decision, which was made in his absence, and the case was reopened. He maintained his innocence and sought to resolve the matter with the Jordanian customs department. Subsequently, customs informed the court that a compromise had been reached and the fines paid. The department then requested the proceedings be terminated, which the court granted, noting that Jordanian law allows for settlements even in smuggling cases that have reached the court stage.
