Prominent Satmar Hasid Dies Suddenly During Holiday in Jerusalem
A respected member of the Satmar Hasidic community in Beit Shemesh, Rabbi Yaakov Weiss, 47, passed away suddenly during the recent holiday. Weiss, a son of veteran community activist Rabbi Yitzchak Weiss of Jerusalem, was known for his pleasant demeanor and welcoming smile.
Weiss studied at Satmar institutions in Jerusalem and was a student of Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Freund, the late head of the Eda Haredit yeshiva. He married the daughter of Rabbi Reuven Ruderman of Beit Shemesh. The couple had a single son after 16 years of marriage.
Weiss collapsed suddenly at his parents' home in Jerusalem's Satmar neighborhood as the holiday began. He was taken to the hospital, but passed away on Shabbat evening. His funeral was scheduled for late Saturday night from Shagar Funeral Home in Jerusalem, with burial at Har HaMenuchot.
Weiss lived in the Rama Bet neighborhood of Beit Shemesh and worked at a local grocery store. Friends and neighbors described him as a kind and courteous man who greeted everyone warmly.
