German Court Indicts Seven Suspected Hamas Operatives Planning Attacks

German federal prosecutors have indicted seven individuals suspected of membership in the Hamas terrorist organization, accusing them of planning a series of attacks targeting Israeli and Jewish sites across Germany and Austria. The alleged plot, uncovered by authorities, aimed to establish an infrastructure for large-scale assaults, with attacks potentially timed to coincide with the second anniversary of the October events. The suspects, identified as citizens of Germany, Denmark, Bulgaria, and Lebanon, are accused of actively building a terror network and stockpiling weapons.

Investigators revealed that Hamas's military wing had established clandestine weapons caches in European countries. At the time of the arrest of three key suspects in Berlin, the cell possessed an assault rifle, 13 pistols, and over 700 rounds of ammunition. Some of these weapons were reportedly moved to a hidden storage facility in Vienna. The final plan for the deadly attack was approved in the summer, and one participant, later arrested in the UK, had prepared a video claiming responsibility for Hamas. Israeli diplomatic representatives, members of Jewish communities, and participants in pro-Israel rallies were identified as priority targets. German prosecutors emphasized that this was not a spontaneous arms collection but a meticulously planned and coordinated terrorist operation.

A significant controversy has arisen surrounding one of the indicted individuals, identified as Mohammed S., who was reportedly an informant for Germany's domestic intelligence agency, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), while simultaneously involved in supplying the terror cell with weapons. This revelation has sparked widespread criticism and raised serious questions about the agency's vetting processes and security protocols. Additionally, lawmakers have reportedly sought to ascertain the extent of the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad's involvement in uncovering the cell, but Mossad representatives cited information source protection laws.

All indicted individuals are currently in custody awaiting trial. The suspect arrested in Britain is awaiting extradition to Germany to face charges.
