German Prosecutors Charge Hamas Operatives With Plotting European Attacks

German federal prosecutors have indicted seven Hamas operatives suspected of planning terrorist attacks against Jewish communities and institutions in Germany and Austria. The suspects, identified as members of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, are accused of aiding in the acquisition of weapons, membership in a foreign terrorist organization, and preparing for state-endangering violent acts.

According to the indictment filed in Karlsruhe, the group obtained an automatic rifle, 13 handguns, and over 700 rounds of ammunition. They allegedly planned to carry out the attacks targeting Jewish sites around October 7, 2025, the second anniversary of the October 7th Hamas assault on Israel. One suspect reportedly recorded a video confessing to carrying out the planned attack, intended for release only after its execution.

Germany's domestic intelligence agency stated that the thwarted plot indicates Hamas or affiliated elements are attempting to establish covert logistical networks within Germany to procure weapons and plan attacks. All seven suspects are currently in custody awaiting trial.

Security measures around Jewish institutions and communities across Europe have been heightened ahead of the upcoming October 7th anniversary, amid concerns of potential attacks by hostile actors.
