IDF Soldier Arrested After Firing at Palestinian Near Ramallah

An active-duty Israeli soldier was arrested and suspended pending investigation after allegedly firing at a Palestinian near the village of Al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah, on Saturday. The incident occurred amidst ongoing tensions and violence in the West Bank. According to the IDF, soldiers responded multiple times to reports of clashes between Palestinians and Israeli civilians involving stone-throwing and the placement of stone blockades. During the dispersal of these disturbances, soldiers were targeted with stones.

Subsequently, a report was received about stones being thrown at an off-duty soldier on the outskirts of the village. This soldier, who reportedly lives at a nearby farm, allegedly entered the village with others and fired shots, claiming it was a response to the stone-throwing. The IDF stated that no injuries were reported from this initial firing. The soldier was later arrested by the Judea and Samaria Police and taken for questioning.

In a separate but related incident, the IDF is investigating Palestinian reports that extremist settlers set fire to agricultural lands in the Wadi al-Balat area on the Ramallah-Nablus road earlier on Saturday. During this incident, a soldier who had recently arrived as reinforcement in the West Bank reportedly fired into the air and then at the lower body of a Palestinian, who was subsequently hospitalized. An initial military assessment suggested the soldier fired because the unit felt threatened.
