Musician and creator Aharon Razel released a new single on Thursday afternoon, titled “The True Joy,” a duet with singer-songwriter Adi Ran. The song is based on words by Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto, the Ramchal, from the classic work “Mesillat Yesharim,” and it is the first preview from Razel’s new album, due ahead of the Tishrei holidays.
Razel said the timing was especially meaningful for his family after the recovery of his brother, musician and creator Yonatan Razel. “In honor of my brother Yonatan’s recovery and the great miracles that happened to him, I felt this was an excellent time to release a song of joy, true and refined joy,” he said.
He added that he wrote the melody with the goal of merging the Ramchal’s text with Adi Ran’s distinctive style. “When I wrote the melody, I wanted to bring into the words of the Ramchal the unique spirit of Adi, in his voice, his faith and his expression,” Razel said.
The song grew out of Razel’s daily study of “Mesillat Yesharim.” It is the third song he has released inspired by that study, after “He Who Loves His Creator” and “Test of Love.” Yonatan Razel, 53, was hospitalized at Shaare Zedek Medical Center late last month because of a brain hemorrhage, and the hospital said he was conscious and received full, comprehensive medical care.
