Thirteen years after Grand Theft Auto V launched, Rockstar Games said Thursday evening that preorders for Grand Theft Auto VI will open next week, on June 25. The company also revealed the game’s official cover art for the first time, signaling to fans that the marketing rollout for one of the most anticipated games in history is finally beginning ahead of the planned November 19 release.
According to Rockstar, preorders will be available through digital stores and selected physical retailers worldwide. In the first phase, both the preorder and the game itself will be limited to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. A PC version has not been officially announced.
Rockstar has still not disclosed the game’s price, even as preorder sales begin. Industry watchers expect the company to reveal the final cost when sales open. For months, rumors have circulated that GTA 6 could cost more than the current standard $70 for AAA games. Because Rockstar has kept silent on commercial details, the preorder launch is being seen as one of the most important steps on the road to the November release, assuming the game is not delayed again.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, whose company owns Rockstar and publishes the game, recently said the major marketing campaign for GTA 6 would begin during the summer. That timing fits the June 25 preorder launch. Zelnick has also suggested the third trailer would arrive only after preorders start, raising expectations that new gameplay footage could appear that day or shortly afterward.
Fans also noticed a new image on the official preorder page showing a wide view of Vice City, the game’s setting, including the skyline, harbor, skyscrapers and dense urban area. After years of leaks, rumors and anticipation, Rockstar appears to be finally revealing more of the project.
