Rockstar announced the prices and editions of Grand Theft Auto VI on Wednesday, ending years of speculation about how much the long-awaited game would cost. Despite rumors that the price could jump sharply, including fears of a $100 base game, Rockstar did not go that far. The standard edition will cost $80 in the United States, while the premium “ultimate” edition will cost $100.
The higher-priced version mainly adds cosmetic extras and exclusive in-game shops that sell cosmetic items. In Israel, the official price will be 319 shekels for the base edition and 399 shekels for the more expensive version. Preorders are already open through PlayStation and Microsoft, the Xbox store.
The game is currently scheduled to launch on November 19 this year, unless it is delayed again. A week earlier, on November 12, players will be able to preload it on their PlayStation or Xbox consoles so they can start playing as soon as it goes live. Physical copies will also go on sale that day, but the box will include only a download code, not a disc.
Rockstar also said GTA Online will not arrive on launch day. Its release announcement refers only to the single-player story mode on November 19. The article notes that Red Dead Redemption 2 had about a six-month gap between story and multiplayer releases, while Grand Theft Auto V, released in 2013, had a gap of about one month. The price point also puts GTA VI among the first major games to launch at $80, following Mario Kart World last year.
