Israel Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Danny Levy sent a clear message to the political system on Thursday evening, ahead of the coming election campaign, pledging that police will protect both the integrity of the vote and public order.
Speaking at a Defense Ministry event at Jerusalem’s International Convention Center, Levy said Israel Police sees itself as a frontline defender of the democratic process. "In a democratic country, elections will be according to the law, whoever is elected will be elected," he said.
Levy stressed the force’s commitment to ensuring the vote is fair and legal. "We will do everything as gatekeepers so that these elections are fair, lawful," he said.
He ended with a warning to anyone who might try to disrupt the elections or act illegally: "Anyone who tries to harm them, we will stand against them like a solid wall."
