Israeli police chief pledges fair election enforcement and defends legal appointment
Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Danny Levy said on Sunday that the Israel Police will enforce election law and protect the integrity of the coming vote without bias. He made the remarks during a ceremony to certify judges for the police disciplinary court, where he addressed two issues that are currently on the public agenda, the election preparations and the appointment of a new police legal adviser.
Levy said the force’s teams and units have been instructed to act decisively against any violations of election law and to show zero tolerance toward anyone who tries to undermine the democratic process. He stressed that the police must ensure a fair and impartial election process.
He also spoke about the appointment of Maj. Gen. Eyal Nahon as the Israel Police’s new legal adviser. Levy said he reviewed several worthy candidates and that his decision to promote Nahon to the sensitive post was made independently, based only on professional and substantive considerations, in response to earlier reports on the matter.
