IDF Counter-Terrorism Fighter Identified as Young Man Found Dead on Haifa Beach
Police have confirmed that Sergeant First Class Itay Peretz, a member of the elite Yamam counter-terrorism unit, is the young man whose body was discovered on a beach in Haifa. Peretz, 23, was a resident of Haifa and is survived by his parents, four siblings, and a partner. His family has been notified.
Peretz joined the military in January 2023, initially enrolling in a pilot's course before transferring to mandatory service with the Border Police in August 2023. Following his training as a combat soldier, he pursued a specialized track for the 'Mista'arvim' (undercover) course. Upon completion, he was assigned to the observation and drones team within the National Counter-Terrorism Unit (Yamam) of the Border Police.
He enlisted for permanent service in the Yamam in December 2025.
