New Year's Weekend Culture Guide Features Israeli Film, Oasis Documentary, and Live Music

As the new year weekend approaches, Israeli audiences have several cultural offerings, including the critically acclaimed Israeli film "Independence," which recently swept the Israeli Film Academy Awards with ten wins, including Best Film. Directed by Moshe Rosenthal, the film, which will represent Israel at the Oscars, is now showing in cinemas. It tells the story of Boaz, a 12-year-old boy in 1987 who uncovers a shocking secret about his father, Meir, portrayed by Assi Cohen. The narrative follows Boaz into adulthood, played by Ido Tako, as he confronts his childhood trauma.

Additionally, the documentary "Oasis: Don't Look Back In Anger" is set to premiere, chronicling the reunion of the Gallagher brothers, Liam and Noel, and their subsequent world tour. The film offers an intimate look at their reconciliation after years of public feuding, featuring their first joint interviews in over two decades, and explores the band's enduring legacy.

For music lovers, Israeli rock icon Berry Sakharof is releasing his first solo album in 15 years, titled "Sulam Ha'ahava" (Ladder of Love). He will perform new songs from the album alongside his classic repertoire at Amphi Shuni. The album features collaborations with various artists and was largely produced by his son, Nadav Hollander.

Theatergoers can choose between two plays at Habima Theatre. "Oh God," a revival of Anat Gov's work, features a psychologist, Ella, who must convince God, played by Norman Issa, to abandon his plan to end humanity. The second play, "Goodbye and Thanks for the Cream Cake," by Izi and Tiki, explores a couple's plan to end their lives together after 50 years of marriage, which is disrupted by the arrival of their children.
