Maccabi Tel Aviv Resumes Contract Talks With Roman Sorkin

Negotiations between Israeli basketball club Maccabi Tel Aviv and its center Roman Sorkin have been renewed, potentially resolving a contract dispute. Sorkin, who has a contract with the club until 2029, had previously stated that an offer received over the summer was not relevant. The club hopes to finalize a new deal before the league season begins.

Discussions regarding Sorkin's salary upgrade have restarted following an interview where he expressed dissatisfaction with the team's offer. While Sorkin is under contract for three more years, no formal offer had been presented until recently. Club management has emphasized Sorkin's significant value and importance to the team.

The current contract saga began after a summer of no discussions. When talks initially commenced, Sorkin deemed the offer of approximately $1.3 million per season irrelevant. Maccabi then increased their offer to around $1.5 million per season, to which Sorkin has not yet responded.

Following a loss to Latvia in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers in late August, Sorkin told Sport Channel, "Contract extension? It's not relevant right now. There are no contacts right now, there was an irrelevant offer, unfortunately. I have a contract for three more years so the fans can relax, I will be at Maccabi. I learned a lesson."
