New Weight Loss Pill 'Pilloundio' Approved for Sale in Israel
The oral weight loss medication 'Pilloundio' (orforglipron), a GLP-1 drug developed by Eli Lilly, will be available in Israel starting September 15th, making the country the fourth worldwide to offer the treatment. Clinical trials indicated that the highest dosage of Pilloundio resulted in an average body weight reduction of approximately 12.4%.
Common side effects reported are primarily gastrointestinal, including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, which tend to occur at the beginning of treatment. Around 10% of participants in the study discontinued the medication due to these side effects.
Unlike the injectable Wegovy from Novo Nordisk, Pilloundio can be taken without fasting or restrictions on water intake. Pricing in Israel will vary by dosage, ranging from approximately 692 shekels for the lower dose to 1,147 shekels for the higher dose.
The drug has been submitted for approval by the Ministry of Health and will be considered for inclusion in the national health basket. This development follows other recent health-related announcements from the Ministry of Health, including a mandate to iodize table salt and an acknowledgment of the inability to minimize risks in the Sea of Galilee.
