Israel's Desalination Plants Resume Operations After August Malfunctions
All of Israel's desalination plants have returned to full operation for the first time since malfunctions began in August. However, only the Hadera desalination facility is operating at its maximum capacity; the remaining five plants are functioning at 40% to 50% of their capabilities.
Israel operates six privately owned desalination plants: Ashkelon, Palmachim, Sorek A, Sorek B, Ashdod, and Hadera. The initial disruptions were attributed to an algae bloom originating from the Nile Delta region, which significantly impacted local farmers.
The return to operation marks a significant step in restoring water supply, though the reduced capacity at most facilities may still pose challenges.
