Airlines Urge Shin Bet Chief to Restore Dubai Flights Amid Financial Losses
Israeli airlines have appealed to Shin Bet Chief Ronen Bar, requesting the resumption of flights to Dubai in their pre-October 7th format, citing severe economic damage from the route's suspension. The airlines emphasized the "enormous economic damage to passengers and us," according to a Channel 13 report.
They highlighted the significance of the United Arab Emirates routes, particularly during holiday seasons and winter months when Dubai is a popular destination for Israelis. The disruption, however, extends beyond Israeli carriers. Daily, 16 flights operated by Fly Dubai and Etihad depart from Ben Gurion Airport, all reportedly full.
The limited options for Israeli travelers have led to a surge in prices, with some tickets exceeding $1,000. The crisis stems from tightened security protocols for Israeli flights departing the UAE. Reports indicate the UAE has rejected certain new security demands from the Shin Bet, leading to the halt of Israeli airline operations.
The airlines are now seeking Bar's intervention to resolve the dispute or, at minimum, reinstate the previous security arrangements.
