Prominent Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Lissitzin Dies at 55 in Israel

Kikar HaShabbatReligious
Translated & summarized from Kikar HaShabbat by baba
The story · English

Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Lissitzin, a leading figure in the Haredi Torah world and head of "Bekiut" (depth of knowledge) at the Beit Midrash Elyon yeshiva in Bnei Brak, has passed away at the age of 55. He died at Ma'ayanei Hayeshua Medical Center after a battle with a serious illness.

Born in 1971 to Rabbi Tzvi Yaakov Lissitzin, head of the Heichal HaTalmud kollel, Rabbi Lissitzin studied at the Ponevezh Yeshiva, where he was deeply influenced by its leaders. He was known for his immense diligence and profound understanding of the Talmud, dedicating himself entirely to Torah study. Colleagues described him as a brilliant scholar destined to illuminate the Torah world with his vast knowledge.

Rabbi Lissitzin served as head of Bekiut at Beit Midrash Elyon and also led the "Morasha v'Daat" kollel, funded by businessman Dan Gertler. He was noted for his continuous study, even during vacation periods.

Tragically, Rabbi Lissitzin had lost his son, Rabbi Chaim Nach Lissitzin, a young scholar at the Ponevezh kollel, two years prior. His son died suddenly in his sleep at the age of 28.

The funeral procession was scheduled to depart from his home at 8 Reishbam Street in Bnei Brak on the evening of September 7, 2026, proceeding to the cemetery of the Ponevezh Yeshiva, where he was to be buried alongside his teachers and his son.
