Prominent Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Lissitzin Dies at 55 in Israel
Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Lissitzin, a distinguished Torah scholar and head of "Bkiyut" (proficiency studies) at the Beit Midrash Elyon yeshiva in Bnei Brak, has passed away at the age of 55. His condition had recently worsened due to illness.
Lissitzin was known as a prodigious student who dedicated his life to Talmudic study, particularly at the Ponevezh Yeshiva, where he studied from his youth. He continued his intense learning throughout his life, even during holiday breaks, and served as a rabbi at the Morasha v'Daat - Gertler Kollel in Bnei Brak.
He was the son of Rabbi Tzvi Yaakov Lissitzin, founder of the Heichal HaTalmud Kollel, and Mina Miriam. He is survived by his wife, Tzipora, and was preceded in death by his son, Rabbi Chaim Nach Lissitzin, who passed away suddenly in January 2025 at the age of 28.
The funeral procession was scheduled to take place in Bnei Brak, with burial at the Ponevezh cemetery. Colleagues and students remembered him as a great scholar who was poised to make significant contributions to the world of Torah study.
