Competition Returns to Ben Gurion Airport, Driving Down Ticket Prices

Competition is intensifying in the Israeli air travel market, particularly on the route to the United States, leading to a significant drop in ticket prices. Direct flights from Ben Gurion Airport to New York for early 2027 are now available for under $800 per person, a notable decrease from previous high costs. This shift is attributed to the gradual restoration of flight capacity on one of Israel's most popular international routes.

Major American carriers Delta Air Lines and United Airlines are re-entering the Israeli market, while Israeli airlines El Al, Israir, and Arkia are also increasing their offerings on the New York route. The influx of carriers is adding thousands of available seats, alleviating the scarcity that previously drove up prices. Initial price reductions are expected as early as this winter.

Examples provided by Gulliver show Delta flights from January 10-15, 2027, priced at $878, with similar rates for February. Further price drops are evident for late winter and early spring, with Delta offering tickets from February 25 to March 3 for as low as $773. El Al also has options below $800 in March, with flights from March 8-16 available for approximately $773.

February through May are identified as prime periods for finding cheaper fares. While winter demand is typically lower due to weather, spring offers pleasant travel conditions alongside reduced costs. Tamar Garzon, CEO of Gulliver, attributes the price changes directly to the return of competition. She noted that limited flight availability previously led to both high prices and fewer choices for passengers. The increased capacity from returning and expanding airlines is expected to fuel further price competition on the U.S. route.

It is important to note that the lowest prices, such as $773-$878, are for specific dates and may fluctuate based on flight occupancy. Travelers with flexible travel dates are most likely to secure the best deals.
