Beitar Jerusalem expects Shon Weissman to decide in the coming days whether he will return to Israel or stay abroad, and the club believes that if he does come back, he will join Beitar in Jerusalem. Weissman played last season for Blau-Weiss Linz, which was relegated from the Austrian top flight.
The club is waiting to see the final outcome before making other squad decisions. One unresolved issue is whether Eugene Ansah will be allowed to register as an Israeli player at the start of the season or only in January, a decision that would affect Beitar’s foreign-player quota.
By contrast, the outlook on Dor Peretz is pessimistic. The midfielder is not rushing to decide and is examining options abroad, while Beitar believes he is unlikely to choose another Israeli club in the near term. If Beitar adds an Israeli midfielder, Dan Glazer is the preferred option.
Off the pitch, Beitar is trying to secure additional tickets for its fans for the away match against AEK Larnaca in Cyprus, but there is no optimism that the request will be approved. Thousands of supporters hoping to travel may have to give up, although many are expected to attend the second leg in Romania on July 30, when Beitar will host in Ploiești.
