Otzma Yehudit Party Seeks to Disqualify Ra'am from Elections
The Otzma Yehudit party has submitted a petition to the Central Elections Committee demanding that the Islamist party Ra'am and its leader, Mansour Abbas, be barred from participating in the upcoming elections. Otzma Yehudit alleges that Ra'am rejects Israel as a Jewish state and supports armed struggle against it.
The 39-page petition cites a report from the Registrar of Associations concerning the organization Aid 48, which is linked to Ra'am. The petitioners claim that Aid 48 and another affiliated organization, Humanitarian Deeds, have transferred millions of shekels to groups suspected of ties to terrorism.
Otzma Yehudit also asserts an ideological connection between Ra'am and the Muslim Brotherhood, claiming Abbas is a member of the organization, a charge Abbas denies. Itamar Ben-Gvir, leader of Otzma Yehudit and Minister of National Security, called Abbas a "wolf in sheep's clothing" and urged that Ra'am be prevented from entering the Knesset.
Previously, the Ministry of Justice indicated grounds for dissolving Aid 48 following an investigation into its financial transfers.
