Noam L'Israel Seeks Disqualification of Ra'am Party Over Mansour Abbas Remarks

The Noam L'Israel party has formally requested the Central Elections Committee to disqualify the Ra'am party from running in the 26th Knesset elections. This move follows statements made by Ra'am chairman, MK Mansour Abbas, in Arabic, where he claimed Ra'am "was forced to accept" Israel's status as a Jewish state to avoid disqualification and acknowledged the Nakba. Noam L'Israel argues that Abbas's remarks reveal Ra'am's recognition of Israel as a Jewish state is insincere and merely a legal formality to remain eligible for elections.

The petition to the committee expresses serious concerns about Abbas and Ra'am's alleged ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, describing the group as one that employs deception against perceived enemies. Noam L'Israel contends Abbas's statements are racist, denying Israel's existence as a Jewish and democratic state and supporting opposition to it. Noam L'Israel chairman MK Avi Maoz said Abbas "exposed his true face" and does not accept Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people, calling for his disqualification and suggesting Abbas should run in an Arab country instead.

The request highlights the ongoing political tensions surrounding Ra'am's participation in Israeli politics and the broader debate over the recognition of Israel's Jewish character by Arab parties. The Central Elections Committee will now consider the petition ahead of the upcoming elections.
