Israel Escalates Southern Lebanon Offensive Amidst Intense Bombardment

Israeli forces intensified operations in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, with a drone dropping explosive canisters on the town of Al-Mansouri, which also faced artillery shelling. The Israeli military conducted demolition operations in Al-Mansouri and Bani Hayyan. Heavy shelling and airstrikes targeted villages and towns across southern Lebanon, including artillery fire on the outskirts of Qubayrikha and Israeli tank movements near Khiyam, accompanied by intense gunfire, according to the Lebanese National News Agency. The Israeli army also fired heavy machine guns towards Majdal Zoun and conducted machine-gun sweeps around Beit Yahoun, contributing to a tense security atmosphere in large parts of southern Lebanon.

In the Nabatieh region, Israeli warplanes raided the outskirts of Nabatieh Al-Fawqa towards Kfar Tibnit, while Dweira Kfarman experienced intermittent artillery shelling. These developments were accompanied by heavy Israeli air activity over southern Lebanon, with ongoing demolitions of buildings and homes, particularly in Tira Harfa, Al-Mansouri, and Bani Hayyan, exacerbating damage to border towns.

Meanwhile, in Israel, the Home Front Command conducted a drill to test air raid siren readiness in northern and central areas, reflecting ongoing concerns about the potential expansion of the conflict. Politically and security-wise, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun discussed the security situation and recent developments in the south with Interior Minister Ahmed Al-Hajjar. Their meeting focused on strengthening security agency presence to maintain stability and reassure citizens, as well as addressing the needs of internal security forces in preparation for a conference in Paris aimed at supporting Lebanese security institutions.

The escalation follows Israel's announcement on Thursday of control over the Ali al-Taher heights near Nabatieh. Despite declarations of a ceasefire, Israel reportedly continues to occupy areas in southern Lebanon and has established a security zone extending up to ten kilometers along the border, alongside continued strikes and demolitions. These ongoing developments are increasing pressure on diplomatic efforts to secure a truce and prevent a wider confrontation in southern Lebanon, leaving the region vulnerable to further escalation.
