Netanyahu to Sue Haaretz Newspaper Over UAE President Call Report

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Sunday that he intends to sue the Israeli newspaper Haaretz. The lawsuit stems from a Haaretz report alleging that Netanyahu falsely claimed to have spoken with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

According to the Haaretz report, which cited sources close to the Prime Minister, Netanyahu had informed his associates that he had spoken with the UAE President. However, the report further stated that no record of such a conversation could be found, and that the UAE President's office had not confirmed any such call. Netanyahu's office has vehemently denied these claims, asserting that the conversation did take place and that Haaretz's report is false.

The Prime Minister's intention to sue was conveyed through a statement released by his office. The statement emphasized that "no trace of a conversation with the President of the Emirates was found" was a false claim made by the newspaper. Netanyahu's legal team is expected to file the lawsuit in the coming days, seeking damages for libel. This legal action highlights the ongoing tensions between the Prime Minister and certain media outlets in Israel.
