IDF Confirms Hamas Rebuilding Military Control in Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have officially confirmed that Hamas is actively re-establishing military control and re-arming within the Gaza Strip, contrary to the terms of a ceasefire agreement. According to security officials, Hamas operatives are retrieving rockets and light weapons from storage facilities to secure and strengthen their hold on the territory.

These weapons are being taken from Hamas-controlled storage sites that hold a variety of armaments, including Kalashnikov rifles, related combat equipment, and rockets. This activity signifies a worrying reversal of the disarmament commitments Hamas made under the ceasefire.

In response to this escalating situation, the IDF's Southern Command, acting on precise Shin Bet intelligence, conducted a significant operation. They destroyed three weapons storage facilities containing dozens of weapons and neutralized a rocket launch pit that had been used previously. This action is part of a broader increase in IDF operations against Hamas leadership over the past week, which have included 16 targeted strikes resulting in the elimination of 14 militants, including company and platoon commanders.

Security officials are observing a growing willingness for confrontation from Hamas, marking the first time since the ceasefire that both the Shin Bet and IDF have identified such a trend. This escalation began approximately two weeks ago with the launching of incendiary balloons from Gaza, and has recently intensified with direct fire towards IDF forces along the border fence and the detonation of an explosive device against an IDF engineering vehicle.
