Coffee Chain Honors Fallen Soldier With Special Sandwich

The Israeli coffee chain "Cafe Greg" has launched a special menu item, "Roni's Sandwich," dedicated to the memory of Sergeant Ronnie Eshel, who fell during the October 7th Hamas attacks. Eshel served as an observer in Battalion 414 at the Nachal Oz outpost and was killed along with several colleagues in her operations room.

The initiative was inspired by Eshel's parents, Eyal and Sharon, who shared their daughter's passion for cooking and her recipe for a special sandwich she used to make for them on Saturday mornings. Moved by the story, the cafe chain adopted the recipe, which features a brioche challah slice fried in olive oil, topped with cream cheese, thin tomato slices, avocado seasoned with lemon juice and salt, and a fried egg cooked in butter with crushed pepper.

The sandwich will be available at all Cafe Greg branches nationwide from October 8th to October 30th, priced at 57 shekels. Eyal Eshel expressed his emotion, stating that the sandwich has become a hit and is highly sought after. He also noted that many parents are now making the "Roni's Sandwich" for their own children, a gesture that warms his heart.

Eshel believes the cafe's tribute helps keep his daughter's legacy alive, emphasizing the desire to make her memory a part of everyday life, celebrating her love for food, family, and joy. His wife, Sharon Malki Eshel, a veteran in customer service management, had previously posted about the struggles faced by bereaved families dealing with bureaucratic systems.
