New Likud Candidate Visits Son's Grave, Cites Mission to 'Bring Something Real'
Itzik Bonzel, who was recently placed in the 29th spot on the Likud party's electoral list, gave an interview to C14 detailing his decision to enter politics. Bonzel, a bereaved father whose son Amit fell in combat in central Gaza in 2023, shared that he visited his son's grave before the party's list was finalized to inform him of his decision and seek his blessing.
"I went to Amit to get his blessing," Bonzel stated, describing the move into politics as a "new beginning, a mission with awe and trembling." He added that he spoke with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by phone following his visit to his son's grave. When asked if he felt his son's blessing, Bonzel responded, "Unequivocally."
Bonzel expressed his motivation for entering public service, saying, "This is the mission, this is why we come, and we want to bring something different, something truly real, because this land is so beloved to me."
