Israeli Navy Chief Warns Turkey: Distance Won't Grant Immunity at Sea

The chief of the Israeli Navy, Vice Admiral Eyal Harel, issued a stark warning to Turkey during a naval officers' course completion ceremony on Tuesday, stating that geographical distance would not provide immunity to those who challenge Israel from the sea. "In the new maritime arena, there is no longer a distant front. To anyone seeking to challenge the State of Israel from the maritime and distant space, I say from here: distance will not grant immunity to those who seek to harm us. The Navy has been built to bring the power of the State of Israel and the IDF even to those who seek to challenge it from thousands of miles away."

Harel also addressed those attempting to alter the balance of power in the Mediterranean and Red Seas, assuring that the Navy is monitoring developments and preparing accordingly. "To those who seek to change the balance of power in the Mediterranean and Red Seas, I say: we see the actions, we are monitoring them, and we are preparing for them. The Navy will not accept a reality where Israel's freedom of operation or its strategic interests in the national maritime space are threatened. We will be there, and anywhere else, openly and secretly, to fulfill our responsibility and mission by any means," he added.

These remarks come in the wake of several maritime incidents between Israel and Turkey, including an event where four Turkish destroyers approached an Israeli missile ship near Cyprus, closing to within a few hundred meters before disengaging.
