Agudat Yisrael Splits as Faction Launches New Independent Party

A dramatic political development has occurred within the Haredi political landscape as MKs Meir Porush and Eliyachin Stark announced their departure from Agudat Yisrael to form a new, independent party named 'Chomat Torat Yisrael' (Wall of Torah of Israel). This move aims to secure greater political and financial autonomy for the faction, ensuring they will be independently consulted by Prime Minister Netanyahu in future coalition talks.

The establishment of the new party was coordinated discreetly with other political figures and involved completing the necessary procedural steps for independent status. This independence will grant them direct control over monthly party funding allocations for their Knesset members, totaling hundreds of thousands of shekels, which were previously managed centrally.

The new platform is expected to enhance their political leverage in negotiations with other Haredi parties and ensure their direct, independent representation in future political discussions.

However, the move has triggered a sharp reaction from representatives of the Gur Hasidic dynasty, who have refused to sign a joint run agreement with the newly formed party. Consequently, negotiations have stalled, with representatives leaving the room, leading to a deadlock.
