A sharp exchange of accusations has erupted between senior figures in the United Torah Judaism (UTJ) party and the Shas party, despite the eve of the Rosh Hashanah holiday. The dispute centers on the establishment of a new political party by MK Yitzhak Piekarski and MK Meir Porush.
A senior official from Agudath Yisrael, a faction within UTJ, accused the UTJ's secretary-general of "stealing the party's funds." In response, members of the Gur Hasidic dynasty, a dominant force within Agudath Yisrael, stated that the new party is independent and "no longer subject to the movement's institutions and the authority of the Council of Torah Sages."
