Ofer Winter's New Party Left Without Key Alliances Ahead of Election Deadline

Retired Brigadier General Ofer Winter's new party, 'Amcha Yisrael,' has suffered a significant political blow as key surplus vote agreements were finalized within the right-wing bloc, leaving Winter with limited options. The Likud party signed a surplus vote agreement with Bezalel Smotrich's Religious Zionism party, aiming to maximize right-wing votes for the final Knesset seat. Concurrently, the ultra-Orthodox parties United Torah Judaism and Shas reached their expected surplus vote agreement.

These alliances leave Winter, who has thus far refused unification efforts and is running independently, in a difficult position. The only remaining party in the right-wing bloc that could potentially sign a surplus vote agreement with Winter's party is Itamar Ben-Gvir's Otzma Yehudit.

Surplus vote agreements allow parties to transfer unused votes to another party within the same bloc, ensuring that votes are not wasted and potentially securing additional Knesset seats. Winter's exclusion from these major agreements significantly complicates his party's chances of crossing the electoral threshold.
