New Haredi Party Submits Knesset List, Vows Alternative to Shas

A new political party, "The Haredi Public," has submitted its list of candidates for the upcoming Knesset elections, positioning itself as an alternative to the established Haredi party, Shas. The party's leadership is headed by Moti Lightner, with Asher Perdi, Dr. Nehumi Yaffe, and Ziva Glanz rounding out the top four.

Lightner stated that the party aims to attract "tens of thousands of Israelis" who previously voted for Shas but are now disillusioned. He criticized Shas, describing it as a branch of extremists who publicly declare "we will die rather than enlist," referring to opposition to mandatory military conscription within some Haredi sectors. Lightner asserted that "The Haredi Public" offers hope and a future for the Haredi community, presenting a distinct choice for voters.

The inclusion of Ziva Glanz in the top four marks a significant move, as traditional Haredi parties typically do not feature women in prominent electoral positions. This decision signals a potentially more inclusive approach by the new party, aiming to broaden its appeal within the diverse Haredi population.
