Ex-Labor MK Eli Goldschmidt Joins Netanyahu's Likud Party
Former Knesset Member Eli Goldschmidt, 72, has joined Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party. Goldschmidt previously served as a Member of Knesset for the Labor Party in the elections of 1992, 1996, and 1999. During his tenure, he held significant positions including chairman of the Labor faction, chairman of the Finance Committee, chairman of the Economic Affairs Committee, and chairman of the Knesset Committee.
According to the Likud party, Goldschmidt, who has lived in the Gaza envelope region for years, experienced a "sobering up" following the October 7th attacks. The party stated that he has since changed his political and security views, now supporting the positions of Netanyahu, the Likud party, and the national camp. Likud described Goldschmidt as bringing "an important, experienced, and sober voice," noting his extensive public and political experience and deep understanding of Israeli reality.
Goldschmidt's addition follows other recent additions to Likud's reserved list, including Elisha Medan, attorneys Talik Gwili and David Peter, and Brigadier General (res.) Amir Avivi.
