Border Guard Officer Charged with Assault After Road Rage Incident

An indictment has been filed against Border Police officer Lior Levy for physically assaulting a civilian and blocking his vehicle in a road rage incident. According to the indictment, Levy was driving in the left lane when he overtook the complainant's vehicle and merged into the middle lane in front of him. He then braked for several seconds before continuing to drive slowly, prompting the complainant to honk multiple times.

After both vehicles passed a checkpoint, the complainant drove alongside Levy's car and made an obscene gesture. Levy then allegedly pursued the complainant, overtook him, and blocked his path, forcing him to stop. Levy exited his vehicle and challenged the complainant to a fight. When the complainant also exited his car, Levy identified himself as a police officer, cursed at the complainant, and punched him several times in the face, causing him to fall to the ground. Levy then left the scene.

The complainant sustained a two-centimeter cut on his forehead as a result of the assault. Levy is charged with assault causing actual bodily harm under Section 380 of the Penal Law. The indictment was filed by the Police Investigations Department, and prosecutors indicated to the court that they may seek a prison sentence.
