Tel Aviv Stock Exchange Plans Major Reforms for 2027
The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) and the Israel Securities Authority (ISA) have announced a joint initiative to implement significant changes by 2027, aiming to bolster the Israeli capital market's international standing, enhance liquidity, and integrate it more closely with global markets.
Two key projects are being advanced. The first will explore extending trading hours to include an "After Hours" session from 5:30 PM to 11:00 PM. Initially, this will focus on stocks, bonds, and ETFs affected by major U.S. and international macroeconomic news, allowing investors to react in real-time.
The second project will investigate the implementation of tokenization, which involves the secure digital representation of securities on a blockchain. This technology promises faster, more secure clearing, automated interest payments and corporate actions via smart contracts, and advanced distribution channels for investors.
ISA Chairman Spiv Singer stated that these moves are part of connecting the Israeli market to leading global exchanges, with extended trading enabling quicker responses to global events. TASE CEO Itai Ben-Zeev added that longer trading hours will increase overlap with international markets and support continued growth in foreign investment.
