Israel's Rainy Autumn Forecast: Flood Risks Highlighted
Israel's Meteorological Service is forecasting an unusually wet autumn, with precipitation expected to significantly exceed average levels in October and November. October could see 170-200% of the normal rainfall nationwide, with coastal areas in the center and south potentially experiencing over 200% of the average. November is predicted to bring 120-130% of normal rainfall to the north and center, and 130-150% to the south.
Despite the expected increase in rain, October temperatures are forecast to remain above seasonal norms. Meteorologists are particularly concerned about October's potential for intense, localized downpours, which could lead to flash floods in coastal cities and wadis in the south and east of Israel.
The Meteorological Service has already briefed relevant ministries and emergency services on potential flood scenarios and other hazardous weather events. Updated models, including an artificial intelligence-driven system, suggest that above-normal rainfall may continue into December, according to the newspaper "A-Yom."
