Smotrich Seeks Diverse Candidate for Final Knesset List Spot

Following the withdrawal of Ofer Winter from consideration, Bezalel Smotrich, chairman of the Religious Zionism party, is actively seeking a candidate to fill the final remaining spot on his party's Knesset list. Smotrich aims to add a figure who can bring a different perspective and appeal to a broader audience, as the current list is perceived as somewhat homogenous, primarily featuring individuals associated with the settlement movement.

The leading candidate for this position is Alon Davidi, the mayor of Sderot. Smotrich has been attempting to recruit Davidi for several weeks, but the mayor has not yet formally accepted the offer. Despite this, Smotrich continues his efforts to persuade him.

Other potential candidates being considered include Emily Amrussi, a journalist, author, and media personality known within the Religious Zionist community. Her inclusion could introduce a recognized public figure not directly from the political or settlement leadership spheres. Another option is Itamar Eitam, a retired Lieutenant Colonel and combat officer who returned to fighting after being wounded. Eitam is also the son of former minister Effie Eitam.

With the deadline for submitting party lists approaching, Smotrich and his team recognize the urgency in making a final decision regarding the last position on the list.
