Smotrich Considers Appointing 'Tzav 9' Founder to Party List

Bezalel Smotrich, leader of the Religious Zionism party, is reportedly reconsidering options to reserve spots on his Knesset list for prominent figures, following the decision of Ofer Winter, head of the 'Am Yisrael' movement, to run independently. Smotrich had previously delayed making such appointments to leave room for a potential merger with Winter's faction, prioritizing national unity over strengthening his party's slate.

Sources close to Smotrich indicate that the party leader will now resume evaluating candidates for reserved positions. Among the names being considered is Reut Ben Chaim, founder and leader of the 'Tzav 9' organization. Tzav 9 is known for its activism aimed at blocking humanitarian aid to Gaza during the ongoing conflict.

The Religious Zionism party issued a statement criticizing Winter's independent run, suggesting it irresponsibly jeopardizes the future of right-wing governance and the State of Israel. The party stated that if Winter is determined to run alone, Smotrich will then focus on reinforcing the Religious Zionism party by utilizing reserved seats.

Ben Chaim's potential inclusion highlights Smotrich's strategy to appeal to a nationalist base, with Tzav 9's prominent role in advocating against aid to Gaza resonating with certain segments of the electorate.
